The Yi Xing Story - Art in a Teapot
Yi Xing (yee-shing)
Many remarkable qualities make a Yi Xing teapot one of the finest vessels in the world for tea brewing. The special purple or red zisha clays are found only in Yi Xing, a city north of Shanghai, China. These unglazed teapots allow the rich porous clays to absorb the flavor, smell and color of the tea brewed in it. Most people dedicate a single tea to each pot so flavor isn't compromised by cross-brewing. Once the pot is well-seasoned, tea can be brewed by simply pouring in boiling water! These low fired teapots withstand extreme temperature change and retain heat well. Different artists and factories create an almost endless variety of teapots, each bearing a chop mark or signature to remind you your teapot is an original Yi' Xing.
